Wie klingt eine Naht? Mit „hardwear“ erforschen SEWICIDE gemeinsam mit Licia Lumen das klangliche Potenzial textiler Technologien. Stephanie Müller spielt die Nähmaschine als Rhythmus- und Klanginstrument, Klaus Erika Dietl das eigens entwickelte pinke Doppelspinnrad. Licia Lumen übersetzt die entschlüsselten Klänge in Bildgewebe. Im Zentrum steht encrypted embroidery: Stickereien und Nähte werden als codierte Information verstanden, die sich mithilfe eines selbst entwickelten Textilscanners in Echtzeit in Klänge übersetzen lässt. So entstehen haptische Klänge, sogar noch um eine neue Ebene erweitert: Textile Oberflächen werden selbst zu Speichermedien und Klangträgern. Zwischen Handwerk, elektronischer Musik, Medientechnologie und Performance entsteht ein poetischer Dialog, in dem Stoffe, Garne und Maschinen ihre eigene Stimme entwickeln.

What does a seam sound like? With “hardwear,” SEWICIDE, in collaboration with Licia Lumen, explores the sonic potential of textile technologies. Stephanie Müller plays the sewing machine as a rhythmic and musical instrument, while Klaus Erika Dietl plays a custom-designed pink double spinning wheel. Licia Lumen translates the deciphered sounds into a tapestry of images. The focus is on encrypted embroidery: embroidery and stitches are interpreted as coded information that can be translated into sounds in real time using a custom-developed textile scanner. This creates tactile sounds, expanded even further to a new level: textile surfaces themselves become storage media and sound carriers. A poetic dialogue emerges at the intersection of craftsmanship, electronic music, media technology, and performance, in which fabrics, threads, and machines develop their own voices.
