KEVIN MENDZIES (BREMEN): Kevin Mendzies‘ »Gifgun« ist eine Kamera im Gewand einer Pistole. Sie filmt in der Ausstellung kurze Videoschleifen, die sofort als GIF-Animation ins Internet geladen werden. Die Videos werden dabei mit den aktuell populärsten Hashtags markiert. Die Arbeit experimentiert auf diese Weise damit, welche Online-Inhalte Aufmerksamkeit bekommen. Jeder Schuss kann zu einem unaufhaltsamen Social-Media-Erfolg werden. Aber zugleich wird unsere endlose Selbstreproduktion offengelegt und hinterfragt.

KEVIN MENDZIES (BREMEN): »Gifgun« questions the mechanics of pop culture in order to generate attention in the digital society. It automtically captures animated gifs once the trigger of the pistol gets pulled and then immediately uploads them to the internet. With the most trending hashtags attached, the gif appears in the currently most discussed threads worldwide. Does the content still matter or is the blankness of endless reproduction enough for media success?
