Jede KI-Eingabe und jedes KI-Tool verbraucht Energie und erzeugt Wärme: eine Spur seiner Aktivität. Wir können den Energieverbrauch künstlicher Intelligenz nicht direkt wahrnehmen, aber ihr Nebenprodukt Wärme bietet eine Möglichkeit, die unsichtbaren Prozesse, die unsere Welt prägen, zu spüren und wahrzunehmen. Auf einem kleinen Gerät generiert ein Large Language Model (LLM, im Volksmund KI, GPT) Antworten zu der Aussage „to heat a candle with the warmth of you”. Die Berechnungen erzeugen Wärme, die letztendlich langsam eine Kerze in Echt zum Schmelzen bringt.

    Every AI input and every AI tool consumes energy and generates heat: a trace of its activity. We cannot directly perceive the energy consumption of artificial intelligence, but its by-product, heat, offers a way to feel and perceive the invisible processes that shape our world. On a small device, a large language model (LLM, commonly known as AI, GPT) generates responses to the statement “to heat a candle with the warmth of you.” The calculations generate heat, which ultimately slowly melts a real candle.
