The installation »Newtons Buddha« consists of a Newton pendulum standing in the immediate vicinity of a beckoning cat that waves at the pendulum. The result of this special constellation is that the pendulum does not stop after some time, as is usually the case, but moves back and forth for an infinite time – synchronised with the waving of the cat and thus allows to experience a perpetuum mobile.
The meeting of the beckoning cat with the Newton pendulum seems to banish the devil of physics and to shift the columns of Hercules or the limits of the possible. In fact, this work makes it possible to experience a perpetual motion machine. Similar to Nam June Paik's "TV Buddha," in which Eastern deity and Western media shake hands, here Eastern philosophy beckons to the history of European thought.
Die Installation „Newtons Buddha“ besteht aus einem Newtonpendel, das in unmittelbarer Nähe einer Winkekatze steht, die dem Pendel zuwinkt. Diese spezielle Konstellation hat zur Folge, dass das Pendel nicht wie gewöhnlich nach einiger Zeit stoppt, sondern sich unendlich lange - synchron mit dem Winken der Katze - hin und her bewegt und somit ein Perpetuum Mobile erlebbar macht.
Das Aufeinandertreffen der Winkekatze mit dem Newtonpendel scheint den Teufel der Physik zu vertreiben und die Säulen des Herkules bzw. die Grenzen des Möglichen zu verschieben. Tatsächlich ermöglicht diese Arbeit, ein Perpetuum Mobile zu erleben. Ähnlich wie beim »TV-Buddha« von Nam June Paik, in der sich östliche Gottheit und westliche Medien die Hand reichen, winkt hier östliche Philosophie der Geschichte des europäischen Denkens zu.
