Kryophone is a sonorous and luminous interactive sculpture made of ice. The sculpture reacts to the electrostatic touch of bodies. Sounds and light evolve according to the intensity of electrostatic contact. At the same time the human heat will transform and model the ice sculpture in a new way. This fragile sculpture invites audience to question our relationship with the environment.

Kryophone ist eine klingende und leuchtende interaktive Skulptur aus Eis. Sie reagiert auf die elektrostatische Berührung von Körpern. Je nach Intensität des elektrostatischen Kontakts entwickeln sich Töne und Licht. Gleichzeitig verwandelt die menschliche Wärme die Eisskulptur und modelliert sie auf neue Weise. Diese fragile Skulptur lädt das Publikum ein, unsere Beziehung zur Umwelt zu hinterfragen.

Visual performer Malte Jehmlich and computer musician  Korhan Erel pretend to answer this question using an overly complicated cybernetic system of overhead projectors, transparency foil loopers, servo animatronics and a robotic arm, which interact via sensors and control signals with a sound setup consisting of a modular synthesizer and other sound devices. This very own take on the current hot topics of robotics, AI and transhumanism uses current and outdated media technologies with references to puppetry, toys and shadowplay.
