VON CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH NELLY-EVE RAJOTTE (MONTRÉAL / QUÉBEC, CA): In ihrer neuesten audiovisuellen Performance »Rückenfigur« verwendet die kanadische Künstlerin Nelly-Eve Rajotte Bilder vom Wald und den Kreideklippen auf der Insel Rügen – und schlägt damit eine Brücke hin zur deutschen Romantik. Die Parallelen zu den Arbeiten von Caspar David Friedrich liegen auf der Hand (man google einfach »Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer«). Aber sie verharrt nicht in der bloßen Abbildung. Mittels einer Panorama-Projektion, die mit zwei Leinwänden bewusst von der typischen digitalen Ästhetik abweicht, und gewaltigen Klanglandschaften, die sie live auf der Bühne entstehen lässt, zieht sie ihr Publikum in ihren Bann.
RETRACING MEDIA ART`S HISTORY
Rückenfigur is a new A/V performance by Nelly-Eve Rajotte, inspired by German Romanticism. Images of the forest and chalk cliffs were shot in Rügen, inspired by the Romanticism of Gaspar Friedrich, whose painting depicts a lone figure observing the chalk cliffs as seen from behind, is embodied by the audience member immersersed in the performance space The use of panoramic projection on dual screens enhances the immersive effect established by the scenery. The soundtrack, created using modular synthesis and various treatments, reflects the idea of the sublime through majestic reverberation and other filtering and spatialization treatments. The immersive environment brings into question the ephemeral world, it's finality, and future Romanticism.
