Qianxun Chen (Bremen): The Plant Quartet
The Plant Quartet is a sound installation that provides an ambient listening experience of plants by using multiple Soniplasts, a custom-designed instrument that translates biodata from plants into sound. It amplifies the ubiquitous existence of plants through the translation from bioelectric potential data of the plants to sound.
The installation puts plants at the centre of the focus: they react to the environment but in a slow and subtle manner, which is very different from the time scale and ways of perception of animals/human. The project pays attention to the relative differences in rhythmic cycles among plants and how they contribute together to a musical composition. By amplifying the ubiquitous existence of plants through sound, the objective of the project is to encourage an intimate relationship
Das Plant Quartet ist eine Klanginstallation, die durch den Einsatz mehrerer Soniplasts, einem speziell entwickelten Instrument, das Biodaten von Pflanzen in Klang übersetzt, ein atmosphärisches Hörerlebnis von Pflanzen ermöglicht. Es verstärkt die allgegenwärtige Existenz von Pflanzen durch die Übersetzung von bioelektrischen Potenzialdaten der Pflanzen in Klang.
Die Installation stellt Pflanzen in den Mittelpunkt: Sie reagieren auf die Umwelt, aber auf eine langsame und subtile Weise, die sich stark von der Zeitskala und den Wahrnehmungsweisen von Tieren/Menschen unterscheidet. Das Projekt beschäftigt sich mit den relativen Unterschieden in den rhythmischen Zyklen der Pflanzen und wie sie gemeinsam zu einer musikalischen Komposition beitragen. Ziel des Projekts ist es, durch die Verstärkung der allgegenwärtigen Existenz von Pflanzen durch Klang eine intime Beziehung zu fördern.
