The »lab award« acknowledges artistic achievements which stand out as exceptional, especially innovative and extraordinarily creative. It supports interdisciplinary and cross-genre work, and wants to encourage experiments and transboundary approaches. In 2011, the prize, 1.000.- EUR, is provided by both Müller Design and Neuland Media. The jury, consisting of international and local experts from the modern and the media art scene, decides who gets the trophy.

In 2011 there is also a Public's Choice Award. If you buy an exhibition catalogue you also acquire the right to vote.

In 2010, Jasper Diekamp and his installation »Monologue of two machines« won the award.
