Brand? Home-made! – Workshops
lab 30’s newest module are the Saturday Afternoon Workshops.
For all those who feel inspired by the playful character of the installations, and for everyone who would simply like to try things out, some of the exhibiting artists will offer workshops that will give visitors the possibility to create a little media arts project themselves. The number of participants per workshops is limited to 10 – 15.
Maelstrom & Ralf Schreiber: Overhead Robot
This workshop consists of 2 parts. The technical part includes soldering and constructing of the solar robots. In the design part of the workshop, participants will experiment with the robot and use it as a projection object. The following material will be provided: prefab boards and all electronic parts needed, coloured foil, small mirrors, assorted arts and crafts material.
Aram Bartholl: Random Screen
This workshops offers the construction of a blinking pixel that is completely independent of any source of electricity. A simple analogue technical construction (small candle, beer can, self-built mini-monitor) makes it possible for each participant to take his/her own »digital« screen home. For those who would like to try it at home: check out the construction manual on
www.datenform.de
Jeff Mann: Equipment For Living
How do you move small objects with motors, and how do you control them? Jeff Mann uses small sensors and the most simple mechanical construction to build instruments and machines that are probably not really useful - but good fun! To be able to take part in this workshop, electronic background knowledge is not needed. Small prefabricated modules will be there for the participants to use.
Gameboy Music Club: Music Out Of Miniature Consoles
For lab 30, the Gameboy Music Club will join forces with Oliver Wittchow, nanoloop’s programmer. In concert and during a workshop, the Club will show the manifold applicabilities of the gameboy concerning music. Additionally, beginners will be introduced to easily accessible music software. Please bring: headphones with mini stereo jack, and if possible, a gameboy.
