Svarte Greiner (NO)
Erik K. Skodvin was last seen moulding odes to shadowy Norwegian film reels with Pale Ravine, his collaborative effort under the Deaf Center moniker. In his murky solo guise Svarte Greiner takes of crumbling cinematic degradation. One part absurd theatre and one part haunting melancholia, Skodvin takes countless recordings stones, wood, water or leaves and layers them over and over each other to leave us with skittering atmospherics and abrasive noise, under which he embeds droning organ sounds or discordant guitar strums. This is the first example of Skodvin’s devastating acoustic doom, a style which he has further explored in the imminent full length album Knive and details lonely journeys by the sea at the dead of night as boats creak and the dark waters lap at your feet. Comparable to the edgy soundtracks of Angelo Badalamenti or even the noise-flecked distortion of Machinefabriek, Skodvin has carved out a distinct sound for himself in Svarte Greiner. www.myspace.com/svartegreiner
Milieu (USA)
Brian Grainger started making music in 1997. He played multiple instruments in a number of different bands and projects, teaching himself how to play guitar, drums, bass and keyboard without the aid of classical training. In 2001, Brian began dabbling in psychedelic and ambient music, and by 2002 he became interested in writing computer-produced (but still organic) songs. Doing simple recordings with a four-track, guitar, organ and a drum machine, he adopted the Parallax moniker and slowly progressed into a unique and expressive aesthetic for himself. By May of 2004, Brian had completed 6 albums under the Parallax name before retiring it and releasing music as Milieu. Brian currently lives with his wife Sophia and his pets in Columbia, South Carolina. www.milieu.experimedia.net/
Kettel (NL)
Reimer Eising is Kettel (1982), currently citizen of Groningen (Netherlands), elixer-brewing, camping-loving and musicmaking sorcerer-to-be. Part of the mysterious USA-based Kracfive label, where he released his debut album »Dreim« (2001) and an vinyl/cd EP peculiarly titled »Look At This, Ha! Ha! Ha!« (2003), containing Kettel-tracks from the past. Long forgotten songs, sung by gnomes and choirs containing crocodiles and blackbirds only. He performed live on the Eurosonic and Noorderslag festival in the Netherlands in january 2003, with his Kracfivian friend Christopher Graves (Colongib), playing a liveshow suitable for headnodders and dancing tomboys at the same time. www.kracfive.com/kettel
Secede (NL)
Lennard van der Last (1984; Nijverdal/The Netherlands) shook hands with his computer just a little while after he was liberated from the kindergarten. As time went by, Lennard made some likeminded friends in online communities, resulting in a contact with established electronic artist Proem, who recognized his skills, introduced him to the Merck label and asked him for a remix on the minidisc-label N5md (2001). Two remixes for Machinedrum followed. These tracks induced the label to ask Lennard for a Secede full length album, now known as »Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic« (Merck 2003), and to cut short: in essence this album is enchanting and outstanding. Now primarily focused on his laptop, new tracks kept on coming. The 2005-planned album on Neo Ouija, "Silent Flower Observers" was cancelled due to a avalanche of reasons. One of the best tracks of the album though, "Memory Table Part 2" is up for download in mp3 on the Sending Orbs website. His friendship with fellow electronica artist Kettel resulted in a connection with the newly started Sending Orbs label from The Netherlands. This label received his newest tracks with great acclaim, giving him the opportunity to work on an album. The cd called »Tryshasla« came out in June 2005. The next CD, »Vega Libre«, was released two years later: Music that brings our minds back to the early days of Future Sound of London and The Orb. A voluptuous mini-album that is electrifying and sensual, with a rhythmical twang that was until now abcent in his earlier work. www.myspace.com/secedelennard
Yagya (ICE)
Celandic producer Yagya (Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson) has been creating atmospheres through melody and sounds for more then a decade. A definitive member of the Thule Musik collective, Yagya also is known for his work as half of Sanasol and also the famed Plastic. A student of computer science at the University of Iceland Yagya spends his free time creating music on his computer. He concentrates on atmospheres and moods and tries to reflect the beauty of the world around him in the sounds of his music. He seeks influence in the works of Gas, Philip Glass, Basic Channel, Brian Eno and anything that is true to itself and it's ideas. Yagya concentrates on the softer side of music and avoids heavy rhythms. He finds harmony and beauty in the simple sounds of nature and wants his music to flow naturally through the listener. www.myspace.com/steiniplastik
Yimino (UK)
Yimino are a British electronic duo based in London with two members originating from the roots of Grunge & Rock. They bring an interesting formula to the world of Dance music with large melodies, powerful drum lines, rhythmic sampling & unpredictable song structuring. Though they had worked together since 1995, 2001 would see their first outing together as purely electronic musicians culminate in the formation of Yimino. Since then they have signed to Ominim Records and have released their new album »Autonoe Vora« and EP »Doe«, as well as a project originally written for live performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2004, simply named »Qeh 2004«. Despite all the studio work Yimino's live performances include new mixes of selected tracks as well as some rare tunes written solely for their live audiences, accompanied by the detailed visuals of Stuart Sinclair.
